Oikeo Men’s Call #11 – Trust, Expectation, and the Power of Prayer

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

– Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

Oikeo Men’s Call #11 – Trust, Expectation, and the Power of Prayer

This month’s Men’s Prayer Call was a powerful and heartfelt gathering centered around trusting God, praying with expectation, and showing up as men in faith during times of adversity. With testimonies, encouragement, and scriptural reflections, the call reminded all who were present that God is still working, even when we don’t fully understand His ways.

Theme: Trusting God in the Storm

Amidst global uncertainty, personal trials, and social unrest, the men gathered to pray for healing—both personal and national. Several brothers opened up about physical illnesses, including cancer, and shared testimonies of God’s faithfulness through their healing journey. Others reflected on the chaos in the world and the need for spiritual discernment in these dark and confusing times.

The reminder was clear: we’re not just men trying to survive—we’re soldiers of faith learning to trust and lead in God’s strength.

Key Bible Verses from the Call

📖 Luke 18:1 (NIV) – “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”
Prayer is not our last resort—it’s our first response. The men were reminded that we are called to be in constant communication with God, especially in difficult times.

📖 Psalms 5:3 (NIV) – “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”
Praying with expectation means believing that God hears us and trusting that He will act in His perfect timing.

📖 Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This passage anchored the conversation on God’s promises. Even when things don’t make sense, we can trust that He is crafting a future filled with purpose and hope.

A Relationship, Not Religion

One powerful moment on the call was a reminder of the meaning behind the name “Oikeo”—a Greek word meaning “to dwell.” The emphasis wasn’t on religious tradition but on having a real, living relationship with God. It’s not enough to look the part—we must allow God to dwell within us and guide our steps.

Testimonies and Wisdom

Multiple speakers shared deeply personal stories—of health crises, moments of fear, and divine deliverance. One brother described waking from a coma after his wife whispered his name in his ear. Others talked about facing prostate cancer and how important it is for Black men to prioritize their health. These testimonies weren’t just stories; they were living evidence of God’s sustaining grace.

Learning to Be Still

“Sometimes,” one participant said, “you just have to be still and let God be God.” Echoing Psalm 46:10, the men encouraged one another to stop striving and start trusting.

📖 Psalm 46:10 (NIV) – “Be still, and know that I am God.”

The Takeaway

This call was about more than words—it was a demonstration of what it looks like when men show up for one another and for God. It was a reminder that we must:

✅ Pray with expectation.
✅ Trust even when we don’t understand.
✅ Be still and know that He is God.
✅ Take care of our spiritual and physical health.
✅ Stand as men of integrity, prayer, and purpose.
