Oikeo Men’s Call #14 – Standing Together in Grief & Growth
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
This week’s men’s prayer call kept it simple and honest: we shared prayer requests, named our griefs, and thanked God for answered prayers in work and housing. We left with one commitment—keep showing up in prayer for one another, especially for brothers walking through loss and conflict.
1) When Grief Meets a God Who Weeps
Our circle made space for lament. Grief doesn’t run on a schedule; it comes in waves. Scripture shows us that grief and faith are not enemies:
“Jesus wept.”
— John 11:35 (ESV)
At Lazarus’ tomb (John 11), Jesus stood with a grieving family, felt their pain, and wept before He worked. He didn’t rush them through sorrow; He met them in it—and then moved in power. That’s our model: presence first, prayer always, and hope anchored in a God who still raises what looks finished.
As a band of brothers, we committed to continue praying for those grieving—naming families specifically, checking in between calls, and carrying the weight together. That is how the Church becomes a refuge.
2) Provision in Transition
We also gave thanks for doors God has already opened—new jobs, housing breakthroughs—and prayed for next steps that are still pending. Waiting can stretch us, but waiting is not wasting when it’s rooted in trust:
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
Think Joseph (Genesis 39–41): demotions, delays, detours—yet God’s favor followed him into every room. The same God orders our steps. While we wait for orientation dates, decisions, and resolutions, we keep doing what Joseph did—serve faithfully, pray steadily, and trust that God is already preparing the next room.
What We’re Committing To
- Share specific prayer requests at the next call—no one carries alone.
- Continue grief support for families in mourning—especially our brother Ronnie Williams and his family.
- Pray through disputes and relational tensions—asking God for wisdom, restraint, and peace.
- Encourage testimony about jobs and housing—gratitude strengthens the whole house.
The Scripture We’re Standing On
- Psalm 34:18 — God is near to the brokenhearted.
- Philippians 4:19 — God provides for every need in Christ.
- Galatians 6:2 — “Carry each other’s burdens…” (NIV) — brotherhood is a command, not a suggestion.
We’ll keep the circle strong: pray, check in, and speak life. As we do, grief finds comfort, disputes find wisdom,
and waiting seasons find fresh faith. God is here—and He is at work.
